Links to Search Engines

The question I get most from my clients is what is the best way to get my website into the Search Engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing.

First of all you need to know their are really 2 types of search engines. The Natural Search Engines such as Google and Yahoo are the most pervasive. AltaVista,Dogpile, Lycos, and Bing also have alot of people who use their search engines but by far Google and Yahoo are most dominant. I would estimate they control 80% of all natural searches.

The second type of search engines is the Local Search Engines such as Google Maps, Yahoo Local, Bing Local, and Yellow Pages. Most of my clients need to be in the Local Search Engines since their audience is within a 45 mile radius from their business.

The good news is that you can submit your website to the search engines above if you have patience and are willing to complete the sign-up process which can be long and complex. If you do not have alot of money, get a cup of coffee and sign-up for yourself.

Listed below are the links to the major search engines as of this BLOG. These change from time to time but I think you can use them to get directly to where you need to be:

Natural Search Engines:

Copy link to your browser and enter

Google - http://www.google.com/addurl/

Yahoo - http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit

Bing - http://www.bing.com/webmaster/SubmitSitePage.aspx

Local Search Engines:

Google Maps - https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?continue=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Flocal%2Fadd%2FbusinessCenter%3Fgl%3DUS%26hl%3Den-US&service=lbc&hl=en-US&gl=US

Yahoo Local - https://login.yahoo.com/config/login_verify2?.src=lcls&.done=http%3A%2F%2Flistings.local.yahoo.com%2Fsignup%2Fcreate_1.php%3Ftype%3Dfl%26lslgn%3D1%26.scrumb%3D0

Bing Local - https://ssl.bing.com/listings/BusinessSearch.aspx

Yellow Pages - http://listings.yellowpages.com/Services/ServiceClaimSearch.aspx

My recommendation is to submit your website to the Search Engines above and you will have a pretty good chance of getting found when someone types the name of your company in the browser.

You should have the following information ready before you attempt to submit your website:

URL of company
Description of company
Business Hours
Products or Services Provided
Birthday
Phone #s
Your Web Mail address for each of the Search Engines ( ie. Google mail or Yahoo mail address)
Business Type

In some cases, the Search Engine will send you a postcard to verify your address or call your phone # and give you a secret code (PIN) to verify your listings.

Please be prepared to wait close to 3-6 weeks to get into the Search Engines. Be Patient. Do not keep submitting over and over.

You can expedite the process in some Search Engines by paying for their Enhanced Listing Service which runs around $10/month.

I hope each of you will not skip this important step and take the time to get it done.

BTW We have a service which will take care of this for you and also check out your keywords/metatage for $99.

Please call or email us at 1-800-734-2761 x101 or info@thewebsuperstore.net.

Blog's

Hints

Everyone should create a Blog for your Website. Blog's allow you to get across ideas and news quickly and efficiently which not only helps your client's but also again improves your website relevancy in Search Engines. Alot of people look up information by topic and it's amazing to see people review your Blog and may or maynot comment. I have found that it is a great way for me to communicate with my clients and have them visit my websites.

There are plenty of Free Blog Services which you can use like Google Blogger or Wordpress. Pick one and get started.

Craig's List Help Website Relevancy

We use Craig's List to improve our Website Rankings

I am sure most of you have heard of Craig's List (www.craigslist.org). I encourage all of you to use Craig's List to run "free" ads in your local area for your products and services. You will find that not only may you get sales leads from Craig's List but it also improves your visibility in Search Engines such as Google or Yahoo. The downside is that you will get alot of SPAM from people who do not use Craig's List properly. I think the upside outweighs the downside.

We have found that a well structured ad with a link to your website does work. You must also have an attractive and compelling offer ( ie free x if you buy y). Be patient and you may get a sale that you weren't expecting and more importantly your website relevancy with improve in Search Engines. Also make sure to update your ads regularily.

The 3rd Step

Reaching out and touching your prospects and clients is a very labor intensive process. You must spend money to make money. The trick is to spend money effectively and maximize your return.

Most companies spend alot of money on acquiring new customers. There is always a cost to acquire a new customer. This can range from $5 to $10,000 depending on the product and market.

Once you have a customer, the trick is to keep them with you and also ensure that they are happy.

At the same time, we have found that clients are changing the methods inwhich they want to receive information and communications. The older generation still like to deal face-to-face and by phone. The younger generation like text messaging and do everything over the Internet. Make sense? Look at the explosion in Twitter and Facebook if you do not believe me.

We have found a service called ezNotify that allows you to send voice, email, and text messages from the same platform. This allows you to input a Distribution List and send regular messages via email, phone, and text by clicking on a button. The cost to send these messages is pennies on the dollar. Think about how long it takes you to do an email blast or have your customer service reps contact your customer bases when you have a special or need to give them important information. ConEdison uses this service to keep their clients updated on rate increases (mandated by Fed Govt that they must notify via phone). You can gain significant improvements in your response rates by using ezNotify (www.eznotify.net )

This is just one idea I have for you in this area. Look for more ideas soon...

Bob

The 2nd Step - SEO

Probably the one area which I must confess that I am not an expert. There are so many variables to SEO that I frankly leave this up to my Partners and their services.

I do however get this question so often that I decided to give you an idea on what I would do if I just built a website. Here are a few hints and examples:

1. Meta tags/ Keywords

Understand your metatags and keywords. These are words that your clients will search your website in Search Engines. ex. auto detailing , auto tune-ups, janitorial services.

It is also advisable to put your city, state in your keywords so people know where you are. ex. auto detailing mobile, al

Have a robust page title and website description for your website. Complete in metatag section of your website.

2. Submit your website to the major Natural Search Engines.

Google
Yahoo
MSN

3. Submit your website to the major Local Search Engines

Google Maps
Yahoo Local
Bing Local
Yellowpages

Follow the instructions from the different Search Engines. They are going to ask you to verify that you are the owner of the business and may call your phone # to verify (Google Maps).

4. Search Engine Optimization

If you have the money, pay for website analysis, keyword analysis, back link recruitment, and search engine submission. This is a very labor intensive process and can take a long time but the payoff is pretty good. We offer this service thru partners for $499 per year. Look for Specials to save money.

5. Update your Website Regularly

You should update your website on an ongoing basis. Changing specials and content is important to Search Engines.

6. Get Positive Reviews

Get some of you favorate customers to give you a positive review in Google Maps, Yahoo Local, and Yellow Pages. This really helps your rankings. The more the merrier.

Just a view ideas.. Good Luck in your Web Identity Project.

Bob

The 1st Step - Get a Website

The first step in building your web identity is to get a website.

There are really 3 things you must decide to get a website.

1. Domain name -

Pick a domain name for your business. your company name is probably the safest bet if it is available. Always try to get the .com but the .net or .biz will work. It is always good to have keyword about your business in the domain name (bestwebdesign.com) but not always practical.

2. Design your website - You have lots of options here.

a. You can find a web designer to build your website ($500-2500).
b. Get a template and build yourself or find someone who can help you ( $100-250)
c. Do It Yourself

Decide how you want to do maintenance for your website. You or Developer $

3. Get a Hosting Company to host your website. You have lots of options here to.

All Web Hosting Companies are about the same. Personally I prefer a company that has live phone Tech Support because you are always going to have questions. Be careful with the unlimited space gimmick. Most websites are under 1MB so who wants to pay for unlimted if you are not going to use the space? I also like to have POP3 emails bob@yourcompany.com) This is very important from a branding and credibility standpoint.

I hope these tips will help you in the Web Site Action Item.
